Cure for Panic Attacks

As anyone who has experienced panic attacks will tell you, the feeling associated with them can be terrible. Some people have been known to think they are in fact dying, others think they are experiencing a heart attack. If however you are able to resist these thoughts and concentrate your mind to understand that it is just a panic attack, this in itself is usual cause for the panic to partially settle. Tell yourself the “truth” and that it is just a panic attack, you will live through this experience. It is amazing this little mind trick can work to help you find a cure for panic attacks.

Counting is another way you can help yourself calm down and cure panic attacks, when you are going through one. When you are aware that an attack may be looming, or if in fact the attack has already started, focus on your breathing, and as you do, begin counting. Count to 10 slowly, one number at a time, with each breath you take, and repeat this pattern until your fear or feeling has calmed slightly. Speaking of mind tricks, another tool you can use is the clock on the wall or your watch. As each second ticks over tell yourself that in just one minute you are going to be fine, or make it 2 minutes if this is a more usual experience for you.

Each time the second hand rolls to the next digit that is one less second you will need to endure the attack. Remember that in either of these situations, place your total focus on either your breathing, if you are using trick number one, or on the second hand if you are using trick number two. Concentrate on nothing else, and you will be amazed at what a difference it makes.

As you know, the panic attack is associated with some bad thoughts and feelings. Your hands may be tingling, and your heart may be racing, and the thoughts in your head are normally going to be detrimental to you coming out of the attack quickly. By concentrating on something completely unrelated to the attack, as in the examples above, you distract your mind from these negative associations. All of the feelings you are having, will still be there.

It is not that by moving your focus you will remove the symptoms of the attack, you will be simply telling your mind to forget about them, and think about something else instead. While doing all of these things, keep telling yourself that this is just a panic attack, and that you are not having a heart attack, or about to die. Re-emphasize things like you have been through this before, and you know you will be fine. Fill your head with these thoughts so there is no more room to think about what is actually happening.

By sitting in your chair and allowing the symptoms to continue unchecked, you will only feel worse. The thing about this is that you are allowing your mind to think the worst and with not having anything else going on in your head, the feelings of uselessness and panic will be able to run riot. This is not what you want to allow to happen so that you may find a cure for panic attacks. You are in control of your mind and your body, and now is the time to exercise that control. Remember that a panic attack is nothing more than a phase and it will pass on its own without any chemical interference, if you do not allow your mind to focus on the fear and the symptoms. It will pass.
